Seaview: Laundry Room Reveal

This is my last before/after of the project we recently wrapped in the Seaview neighborhood of Edmonds. This little laundry room was tasked with a big job, serving the owner Rachel who is an incredibly talented florist, Rachel Rouse Floral and works out of her home. Storage for family shoes and flower buckets was top of the list! Join me for a little transformation magic!

Before:

Like many laundry rooms (mine included!) this laundry room is small, and as it stood before, wasn't making the most of any of that small footprint. This room leads from the play area to the garage and gets a lot of small feet and dog paws running through. Originally it had a free-standing washer and dryer split across the room, some old linoleum flooring, and no storage. There was a window with some natural light, but that was sacrificed for some much better changes!!

Design Phase

I should have taken some sort of video to make this all clearer, but let's see how we do with me explaining my thoughts. First, we were going to nix the window to make room on the exterior wall for a stacked washer and dryer unit. Once those were stacked we could add a simple lower cabinet with a large, deep sink for buckets of flowers. As you can see in the design, I opted to add open shelving above the sink to break everything up and give a small styling moment, as well as a sconce for ambient lighting.

I drew up plans for the cabinet maker so we could get these custom pieces just right, including a wall-to-wall built-in on the interior wall for storage. I added a smaller drawer unit on the base for shoe storage and as a spot to sit while putting on shoes. Rachel had chosen some beautiful green appliances so I paired those with a lighter gray painted wood cabinet, and we repeated the field tile from the primary bath on the floor in this space. It all comes together as a traditional with a twist laundry room, perfect for working and then tucking everything away.

Finished Space

When all was said and done, this small laundry room was set to serve their family and all of Rachel's many clients in the busy season ahead! I love how this space turned out, small but mighty and always pretty.

Thanks for all of the love along the way on this beautiful project! It's been so fun to share.
